Take Action

What can you do to stop discrimination and hate speech against GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered) people? (See the Terrorism and Islam page for actions to take to protest anti-Muslim hate speech and bigotry).

1) Join the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), donate as much as you can, respond when they send out an action alert (make show you give HRC permission to send you emails–they will not inundate you).

2) Join GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), donate as much as you can, and respond when they send out an action alert (make show you give GLAAD permission to send you emails–they will not inundate you).

3) Speak up when people write or say, “that’s so gay.” Usually the person doesn’t realize that what they said is offensive to gay people. A little polite, friendly education goes a long way. 4) I’m not sure how effective it is but some folks advocate writing or calling Sally Kern and telling her what you think. I sent her an email and left a message on her voice mail.

If you choose this option, make sure you are civil. Don’t be afraid to use strong language in your denunciation of her hate-filled diatribe and failure to apologize but do so in a polite, respectful manner and do not cuss (curse) or make threats!

You not only might become the subject of a law enforcement investigation but you only feed into the false image of gays as rabid, uncontrolled monsters trying to take over America.
